(Really, I didn't care that much about the Avalanche. But then there was the turtle thing, and...yes. They are much hated by Detroit and everyone who follows the team.)
Oh, you really don't want me to give the story. Suffice to say that one of their players made a cheap hit and injured a Detroit player. And Detroit responded in kind at a later game, and the original guy sort of curled in a ball on the ice.
I think all the guilty parties got heavily fined/censored and whoever paralyzed that guy is hated all over the place. And the coach who ordered it? Also universally despised and possibly fired? But again - this is only what I've caught on the periphery of forgetting to turn the news off after the weather comes on.
Oh, wow. I really hate dirty players like that. There's another guy, I forget his name, but he's been thrown out of games around seven times, and for the last time he did something (stepped on a guys ankle while wearing his skates while the other guy was down) he's being sent to some anger management course, but he still hasn't been banned form the league. It's like, this dude is out to seriously hurt some guys, he shouldn't be allowed out on the ice.

And this would be exactly why I have no interest in sports. I know everyone who plays doesn't do this kind of crappy stuff BUT it seems like there is alot of it and I don't like to see people be brutalized. No matter how much they get paid!
I actually find there aren't that many guys who go out there every night trying to intentionally hurt someone. Unfortunately, it does happen. And those guys are ruining it for others who are out there to play the game. Hitting is a part of hockey, and I love to see guys get into scraps, but only if it's a clean hit/fight. What I hate is having guys like Gretzky or Crosby who are afraid to get a little rough on the ice. Sometimes injuries happen (in the Oilers case, it seems like everyone on our team has an injury) but that comes with any sport. When it gets to the point that players are afraid to step out onto the ice against another team because they could get seriously hurt is when it's pushed too far.
And, er, sorry for the small rant. I don't even really know that much about hockey, so, haha.
(I don't really follow any teams besides Oilers, Capitals, and Penguins for, I suppose, obvious reasons (hometown, Ovechkin, my hate for Crosby).)
