Irony sometimes leaves a bitter taste. Shoukei knew this better than anyone. For three years she had hated Gekkei for what he had done, loathed him and all who followed him because of how blinded she was in her own naïveté.
She had yearned for the sweet kiss of silk on bare skin, ached for the taste of rich foods, dreamt of sparkling jewels and heavy crowns upon her head.
As one of Youko’s advisors, she was able to indulge in these things - Youko, the one she had hated, too. But she dressed plainly, because now, she hated extravagance.
