ONE.

Arthur Pendragon was ten years old when he experienced his first kiss. It was with a servant girl whose name he couldn't remember even if he had asked her a thousand times. But such things didn't matter to a young Arthur. He wore it like a status symbol; a sign of his princeliness. He was the first among his friends to be kissed by a female. Of course, he never told them it was with a servant girl. Instead, the receiver of the kiss depended on who was listening and which tale they had just heard about. After a while, it didn't matter because there were more girls and much more with many of them.

TWO.

Their banter would escalate into insults on any other night. However, this was not like any other night. From the beginning of their conversation, it felt odd, like there was too much weight in their words. Then again, Morgana was wearing a dress that would entice any man, much less Arthur.

He couldn't recall what they had been arguing about as he closed the distance between them. In a swift movement, she was in his arms with his lips firmly planeted on hers. At first, she was rigid with shock before realization dawned and her stoicism melted away.

Arthur had never been close enough to Morgana to catch her scent-- the faint smell of spring flowers and Gaius' sleeping draft traced her breath. When they broke apart, the look in her eyes mirrored his.

With unspoken words, they agreed to not speak of the incident and it's lack of feeling.

THREE.

Wine didn't suit well with Merlin. After a few cups, his focus became worse (if that were possible in Arthur's opinion) and he would stumble over anything, including his own feet.

As Arthur felt his servant's body lean against his, he wondered how such a lanky fool could be so heavy. After much effort and stopping multiple times to adjust him, Arthur finally got him to Gaius'.

The physician wasn't there so he dropped his servant in his bed and sat down, taking a breather. Merlin rolled onto his back and Arthur began to watch him sleep. Without precedent, the prince leaned forward and kissed his servant. Immediately, Merlin reacted and deepened it even more.

Arthur was surprised at the action and decided to break it off. Once more, he was disappointed by his kissing partner.

...AND ONE THAT DID

He always noticed a beautiful woman-- it was one of his many talents. This time, he overlooked one woman for so long he couldn't recall why he did so in the first place. It was a wonder to him as she backtracked on a comment she made that could be taken in many different ways.

At this point, she was stumbling over her words, becoming flustered, and twisting her fingers in her hands. Her rambling was becoming incoherent and Arthur thought of the one thing that could possibly shut her up.

He grabbed her shoulders, pulled her forward, and their lips crashed together. Arthur was expecting the same tawdry kisses he had exchanged with others but this was different. Unlike Morgana who was rigid at first, Guinevere was accepting and warm. Merlin, while inebriated and in a stupor, paled in comparison to the smoothness and the full awareness of their situation that Gwen possessed. More than anything, it felt right.

Arthur slowly broke away, allowing himself to watch her slowly open her eyes from contentness to the confusion as if being fully awake. She took a step back and tried to find the joke in the action by his body language. Unfortunately for her, he didn't see it as one. With caution, he stepped forward, cupping her cheek before their kissing resumed.

They didn't know why but their silent words became actions that brought happiness to them.
