a strange day

so, i really did try to get to the courthouse on time today, but the mta gods conspired against me. also, there are like 7 greek-temple-looking buildings on centre street and how am i supposed to know which one is 60?

i got there 20 minutes late, but luckily everything runs behind there anyway (unshockingly). so the courthouse is like some sort of strange labyrinth/prison. seriously, we were held up a variety of stairways and through locked doors to a dingy, windowless jury room. it was mostly a lot of waiting and vague instructions. at some point, we were lead into the courtroom. the judge gave us the short version of lengthy instructions and we heard some ridiculous opening statements before breaking for lunch. also, the judge said the trial could last a week. i'll elaborate more on the craziness of this case sometime later.

we had a 2-hour lunch, so i decided to go home and take care of a few things. i ended up watching part of another buffy (i'm working my way through season 3 totally unspoiled), and it happened to be the part where oz forgives willow for inexplicably being a dirty cheater, and dammit if i didn't start CRYING. i'm so lame. but something about the act of totally unselfish forgiveness really got to me. i was, like, actively crying, not just tears in the eyes. oy.

so then i headed back downtown to the courthouse and our jury room/prison cell. after a lot more waiting we were lead back into the courtroom where the judge told us that the case was resolved. craziness. there wasn't quite enough time for me to go back to work and make it worthwhile, so i took the opportunity to cuddle with emily kimberly on the couch and watch a little more buffy.

and tomorrow, it's back to work and back to the stress.
