the state of new york stole my day

had jury duty today. i can officially confirm that it is as boring and uneventful as everyone says. although the orientation video featuring diane sawyer is pretty hilarious. i love that they start out your day with a montage of "typical new yorkers" telling the camera that it's annoying to be called for jury duty.

One interesting thing is how old school and paper-based their whole system is. [wow, that was terrible english, but i'm too tired to phrase it properly.] if i had never come back from lunch, they would've never known. in fact, if i had peaced out after turning in my summons, they never would've known. no one was selected all day, and from what i understand that happens frequently. but on the other hand, you could take a quick trip to use the restroom and miss your name actually being called and then you might be considered delinquent.

luckily they do have wifi in this building, so i was able to plug in my laptop and get some stuff done. if it weren't for that, it would be pretty unbearable.
