This is the first time in a while that
I have been happy

While my sadness pulls me down more often than I'd like,
I have been happy
More often than not,
And I feel I owe it all to you,
My best friend.

Your bright blue eyes give me hope;
Your thoughtful wisdom gives me the strength to carry on;
Without you I would be forever lost, but
I have been happy
Thanks to you.

Everything we've gone through in the past year
Has made a difference in shaping who I am.
I appreciate that more than you know,
And I'm so grateful that I befriended you.

I read the words you sent to me,
And my heart fills with love and happiness.
When I'm sad they sing to me, and then I realise that
I have been happy
Happier than I've been in a while.

This poem is for you, Dakota;
I hope you like it,
Because I mean every single word I have written.

Ever since I met you,
I have been happy
And I hope that never changes
