Going Home

Dec 16, 2007 23:20

Seventeen good reasons to go back home-
Alcoholic evenings and icy roads.
The way that you get when you’re upset,
Had too much to drink and want to go to bed.
My face pressed against your screen door,
Those times we made out on your front porch.
I guess that you meant it when you said, “it’s over.”
God, I’d do anything to just come over.

So tell me why I’m back again,
Passed out beside you with no sheets on the mattress.
The first one up doesn’t have to clean up.

Too little too late, spilling our guts.
When I finally said it I meant it more than that once.
Too little too late, spilling our guts.

Listening to Owen by the coastline,
When I finally asked you to be mine.
Girl, I meant it with all of my heart.

So is this what is has come down to-
Six reasons why I shouldn’t have left you?
An honest mistake, another day.

The way you look when you first wake up,
When you laugh at my jokes when you know they suck.
When you held my hand on the long drive home.
Those late nights talking on the telephone.
When you tried to be cute and wear my clothes.
But mostly girl, you had me at “Hello.”

Too many reasons to stay away from home.
I only got hurt because I got too close.
I have no one to blame but myself.
