GUYS
GUYS
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN
We went to see Ronan Sherlock and his Irish step band at MMDM today and it was FANTASTIC. 8D
They started with Whiskey In The Jar and it's one of my favorite songs and it was so neat. Probably the best version of this song I ever heard. Then they played a couple of songs I didn't know, and they asked the audience to clap to the tune and I whispered to my mom "They want us to clap" because my mom said she understood zero of Irish English. And then we started clapping and NOBODY else clapped because nobody could understand what they said! I felt a bit sorry for them but then at some point they realized nobody understood them and one guy in the band stopped playing and started clapping and then everyone in the audience clapped too. IN RUSSIA HANDS CLAP YOU, haha.
And then two dancers came on stage and they had a STEP DUEL, one would dance, then he'd stop, wave at the other and he would start dancing too. It was so neat, I'm usually pretty "bah" about dancing (I was forced to go to dance classes in primary school and being a clumsy chubby kid I failed there and loathed it) but step is my favorite dance ever, because it's both a dance and a march and there's so much more to it I can't even put it to words.
And then I thought "Oh, I wish they did Fairmount Hill! but I doubt they'll do it" (because it's my favorite Irish song ever) and then a woman came out on stage AND STARTED SINGING FAIRMOUNT HILL. OMGGGGGGG. Well, technically she sang the original version, Spancil Hill but still SOOOOO AWESOME. 8D JUST MAGICAL.
Then there was a break and I was overexcited and burbling because it turned out I was the only one in our company who knew those songs by heart and I never expected to hear any familiar songs. And we had coffee and coffee only makes everything better!
And in the second half one of the dancers suddenly came from the back of the hall, and he danced right between the rows, asking everyone to clap as he danced, and then he picked out the smallest girl ever from the front row and took her on stage along with some other volunteers and tried to teach them step moves there. It was SOOO hilarious. And they knew some Russian words, so they would speak really cutely like "Raz, dwa, tri, four, five, six, seven~" and "first slowly, then bistro-bistro". And everyone of the volunteers pretty much failed at dancing except for one guy who looked like a real pro.
There were some more songs I didn't know, and then the main guy (Ronan Sherlock) said "We celebrated Christmas last week, and I know you celebrate Christmas next week , so here's a Christmas song" and they started playing Fairytales of New York and I just nearly died right there. <333 And it was also funny, because half of the audience were these standoffish elderly ladies that frown at you when you say as much as "frick" and you know how the song goes "You scumbag, you maggot, you cheap lousy faggot, happy Christmas you arse~" and it was so hilarious realizing that half the audience has NO CLUE what the lyrics are really about. XD
And for the very end they played The Belle Of Belfast City TWICE and it was soooo good.
It was a far too short concert for my taste but it was SO full of awesome. My hands hurt from clapping so much but it's a good feeling! These guys seriously made my day! THE BEST DAY IN THE ENTIRE YEAR! 8D
Now excuse me, I'll BRB to draw McFael dancing.
There are some youtube videos from their concert at MMDM last year -
