30-Day Challenge - Day 3

Day 3 - A main protagonist’s best friend(s), their bio(s).

It should be noted that Pascal didn’t really have any friends before he started working at ERF. He was always singled out when he was a kid (both because of his intellect and his disability) and by the time he left high school he convinced himself he didn’t need any friends.

Amy could be considered Pascal’s best friend but since I already wrote about her I’m going to tell you about all his friends besides her. In no particular order. I mean from left to right. I’ll keep it short but you’re welcome to ask questions!

Chris Buckland. British. The only astronomer on the team. He is not really Pascal’s friend when they start working together. In fact Chris is a living example of some aspects of character Pascal tried to weed out of himself since he was little so seeing Chris whining and grumbling irritates him. But they are on the same team and they have to get on and so Pascal ends up helping Chris overcome his problems and Chris turns out to be not a bad guy after all.

Ray Tarde. American/Canadian. An astrophysicist. He’s the annoying but friendly tagalong. There’s not much else to say here, it pretty much defines their friendship.

Arthur McFael. Canadian. A mathematician. Pascal’s supervisor and the leader of their team. Despite being twice older he treats Pascal as an equal and tries to be a friend as well as a boss. Pascal usually turns to him when he needs advice.

Fred Feyn. Canadian. A programmer/hacker. The only thing Fred and Pascal have in common is a lot of sarcasm (well, that and being geeks but it is too obvious) and maybe that’s what makes their friendship work. They also help each other at work - Pascal tries to explain physics for Fred and Fred keeps his computer running.

Norton Commander. From a parallel world (supposedly British but it’s hard to say for sure). An engineer. It might seem funny but while being older Norton really looks up to Pascal. And Pascal is most likely to ask Norton for help when he can’t do something himself - like fix a switch socket or assemble Ikea furniture.

And last but not the least, Malcolm Keener (Canadian, both a physicist and an mathematician). If you ever saw these two interact you wouldn’t think they were friends because they quarrel all the time, call each other names and mock each other. But when troubles arise they will be the first to back each other up and help out. And that’s what matters.

You might have noticed I’m not updating this thing daily. It’s because I’m freelancing right now and the next two weeks are promising to be very busy. So I’ll update when I can!

pascal b. winford, keener, nc, fred feyn, art, meme, mcfael, chris buckland, ray tarde, trivially true
