Читая Foundations of Social Policy,  для моего класса нашла совершенно улетную цитату.  Берта Капен Рэйнольдз (одна из самых интересных и значительных фигур в социальной работе) сказала:

"If one word is needed, then, to begin to sum up what fifty years of living have taught me, that word is relatedness ... many people do not know that they stand in ( Read more... )

What a bunch of gibberish nonsense! :-)

it is just your opinion, but there could be many others :-) that that is one of the points of the quote ;-)

What you said applies pretty much to anything. Of course it is my opinion. Of course there could be many others. Why is this quote interesting? It basically targets bigotry, but it just states the obvious doesn't it?

well, it is not so much about the quote, but what that woman stood for. she didn't just say it. she really lived like that. it is hard to explain.
also, sometimes the most obvious things, we forget about and need to be reminded of.
to me this qote was important to read this morning. i wanted to share my good feeling toward the meaning of this qote with people who read (the whole two of them :-)))))))
this is it, nothing more, nothing less ;-)

i don't have to be super profound in my on-line bold do i? ;-)

He he, I am obviously here to destroy your good feeling (but this of course is just my opinion). The problem with these humanists (including unfortunately Elie Wisel for the last 10 years or so) is that they preach tolerance, understanding and stuff like, which is very nice, but it does not work and no one listens to them outside of academia and their own circles. Don't you think people that slaughter each other for their religious and other beliefs are not able to come up with much stronger arguments?

there are some things that i do not have control over. people who slotter each other for their believes, may have strong arguments for that.

i am just saying that we need to be able to understand where people are coming from, what their place in the world is, and what their motivation. without that we cannot make judgements on their actions morals, so on.

it is not about who has the strongest argument. IT is not about who is right or wrong in being idealist or an aggressor, it is just about the fact that everyone has an argument for their action. it is important to remember not to underestimate those arguments.

Bor' you just made me elaborate ot it a lot more than i initially expected. :-) i didn't even think that deep, it was just a morning quote that i came accross and felt really connected to:-)

In addition to stating the obvious, this quote is hard to digest! And it seems, it was made as such on purpose to sound credible. Reminded me of the mortgage legal mambo-jumbo during my last re-finance... Peace! :-)

That the thing: this is an exercise v "izjashnoj slovesnosti". Millions of people said this same thing using different words - for no use.

yes, just like many other things in life. what is wrong of being reminded of what you knew before?

Sorry Ol'ka, didn't mean to be hostile to you - I was just surprised to what they teach kids at school these days! :-) Here is the famous quote by Donald Rumsfeld to brighten your peaceful winter day:

"Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do no know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know"
