So Caleb is sick again. Which is not unusual, but this time he's started having trouble breathing, so I listened to his lungs and decided there was definitely something wrong there - sounded to me like a late expiratory crackle in his left lung. The doctor agreed (although he thought it was more like a wheeze) and prescribed albuterol from a nebulizer. Which means it is 10:41 and I am up with a hyperactive baby. Note to self: although it is easier to give the medicine while Caleb is sleeping, it is not a good idea. I've been meaning to post for awhile about Caleb though, so maybe it is a good thing.
I thought that I had taught Caleb the milk sign- it comes and goes, but this time I thought he really had it- and he certainly seemed to understand much better this time, but instead of "milk" I apparently taught him "I want" at least that is how he uses the sign. I'm working on "eat"- I think we are close and I think he has almost learned "no" with no help from me. I shake my head and say no and move him away from things like cords. Earlier I caught him out of the corner of my eye shaking his head and grabbing from a cord, so I must be teaching him something. And that is the scary thing. Yesterday, I was working on a project and using a chopstick to spread glue in a container. Caleb fussed and fussed until I gave him the chopstick and the container and he immediately stuck the chopstick in the container just like I had been doing. Smart kid, huh? Scary!
I've been thinking about how quickly he grows and I think our shower ritual is a good marker of his development. When he was a baby, I would set him on the changing table and take my shower, peeking out every once in a while to make sure he was okay. When he got big enough to roll, I put the changing pad on the floor and took my shower. When he got big enough to sit, I put him on the floor and put pillows all around him and took my shower. When he got big enough to crawl and walk, I put him in the bathroom and put the toilet paper up high and took my shower. Now he is big enough to demand things, so I get him naked and put him in the shower with me! Pretty amazing, huh? Well, looks like it might be bedtime. TTFN
