To Dream a Fatal Dream

Oct 09, 2005 22:08

he wished upon a star
just to watch the morning bleed.
he pulled the clouds apart
just to find out what they mean.
and everything is fatal now
and all the world's a dream.
you can fake your smile tomorrow,
but tonight please just be mean.
keep it secret, keep it safe.
get it over, pull the trigger.
make something certain, don't let him wonder.
you can justify it later,
say whatever makes it stick,
but for the love of this and that
just please, please make it quick.
the air is still, it's tombstone quiet
and every breath means something now.
it can't be long now, soon
so soon, it'll never be again.
perhaps this time it'll stay down there,
beneath the soil, where no men toil.
is it secret? is it safe?
make sure no ugly head is reared.
there is more than that in the earth
and especially the sky that should be feared.
sacrifice what you must. take only what you need.
no matter how much he sobs and shivers,
no matter how much he protests and pleads.
bury him deep, bury him fast
and don't you ever look back.
i grew far too old, far too fast.
what was once may never be again,
but to this hope we hold to the last.
so bury me deep, bury me fast.
do it quick, forsake things past.
tell the secret, crack the safe.
it'll all be over soon, for ruin or for grace.
