Abby weans

Abby is two-and-a-half, and I guess she just weaned. I think that may be a record for earliest self weaning within my immediate family (my sisters and our offspring). (I know many, many people whose children self-weaned around this age, though.) She had been asking to nurse only every few days since before Christmas, and yesterday I realized it's been almost two weeks since she's really nursed. She play-nursed a little the other day, but it was clear she either didn't remember how to latch on or she didn't want to.

I have to say I feel a little down about it. I miss our cuddly nursing sessions, and the way she would look at me and touch my face. I had hoped tandem nursing might help ease her through the transition with the new baby (she still talks about "her" na-na and "the baby's" na-na), but I'm sure we'll do fine without it. It was also nice having a nursing toddler to take the edge off engorgement in the first few weeks. Oh well! I'm glad to know she nursed as long as she wanted to/needed to, and it's a privilege to watch her take another step towards independence. (Although honestly I would have preferred sleeping through the night to be her next step. =)
