Fun at the inaugural SG50 Family Picnic

Our family heralded the first weekend of 2015 with the inaugural SG50 Family Picnic at the Istana.

Organised by Families for Life and the President's Office, the Istana opened its gates for the first time for families to come together for a picnic.

We spread out our mat on the sprawling greens and let the boys loose. There was a nice festive atmosphere in the air with lots to see and do.

We sat back and munched on sandwiches while listening to live music by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

The older boys jumped in the bouncy castles, played at the mini playground, tried out soccer and downed cups of ice-cold Milo from the awesome Milo truck. They were happy just running around!

I believe it was Jordan's first time at the Istana - he had fun crawling on the mat, amusing himself by touching the grass and sipping on contraband drinks ;)

We had lots of nostalgic fun choosing old-school snacks from our childhood from the makeshift 'Mama shop'. I had some Ken-Ken cuttlefish, Super Ring and Tasty biscuits - who remembers them?

Before leaving, we penned our wishes for Singapore in the SG50 Wishing Balls, and Sean drew a super robot for Singapore. We even caught a glimpse of the President - that's probably the closest we will ever get to him!

It was a fun-filled evening. My boys were very sad to leave the Istana grounds.

Thought the event was a very meaningful initiative - a timely reminder to always make time for the family in the new year :)

PS. If you are keen, the next Istana Open House will be on 20 Feb this year (the second day of CNY).
