Saying goodbye to the old school

Jun 04, 2014 12:19

It was Sean's last day of his second term in K1 last Friday.

It was a bittersweet celebration because that was also their last day in the current kindergarten premises. They will be moving to a new school building in a different location after the June holidays to make way for, in the words of another parent I spoke to, 'a silly road'.

I felt sad too because Foops went to the exact same kindergarten many years ago and we really wanted all three boys to go to the same kindy their father went to.

And it seemed we were not the only sentimental ones. Most of the parents (some of whom had attended the kindy as well) turned out in full force to bid a fond farewell to the old premises they have come to love. The parents probably felt it more than the children who have gone for a tour in the new school and are *really* excited about moving, haha!

The teachers and children has a small celebration in class. They had cakes and snacks they brought from home (Sean and I baked M&M cookies). Sean relished in introducing Ryan to his friends and he in turn was thrilled to join the 'Jiejies and Gorgors' in class (the first time we have ever been allowed to step into Sean's class). It was so cute.

Later, the teachers led the children in a few action-packed songs, much to the parents' glee.

After the party, we took pics of the kids in the old school hall where they gathered every morning to sing as one of the teachers played the piano, their big airy classrooms with the rickety fans and old-school grills, the tiny swimming pool where they had their swimming lessons every week, in the always popular yellow swing, the old sprawling outdoor playground atop the hill, the hand-painted wall murals along the corridors.

Ah, it was so hard saying goodbye to the old premises. At least, Sean had 2.5 good years there.

We will miss it surely.
