Kindy orientation

We attended Sean's orientation at his new kindy today.

We had a bit of trouble getting Mr Sleepyhead out of bed in the morning, convincing him to finish his milk, use the potty and get dressed for school.

Urgh, we definitely have to start shifting his bedtime to 9pm or earlier, else he is going to be late for school every day!

The orientation was just a short session for him to get acquainted with his teachers and classmates, and for us parents to sort out the logistics (school bus pickup times, uniforms, etc).

Sean eagerly introduced himself as 'SION!' to his teacher and classmates. Not a shy kid, this one.

He needed a bit of coaxing to sit still for the circle and story times and he would occasionally look around for us but otherwise, I think he did pretty alright on his own.

Of course, I still worry about how he will take to everything - whether he would be okay without us (we are planning to accompany him only for the first one or 2 days), would he be alright taking the school bus on his own, would he understand the teachers when they speak in English (he speaks more Mandarin at home), who will look after him when he gets home from school since he won't be going to my mum's place on weekdays anymore, etc etc.

Sigh, this is a sure sign I am a mother - I can't help but worry! ;)

After today, we have also developed the deepest respect for teachers/minders of young kids. They were *so* patient with every single one of them. And some of the kids really do look very young (year end babies, maybe?)!

I got a headache after just an hour of being in the classroom surrounded by so many 2-3 years olds!

Ah, I can't believe my little boy is starting school soon!
