It's been how long since my last post? (Really, I'm too lazy to check.)
Anyway, life's been good. New boss, more or less the same job (slightly different product), holiday stuff.
My birthday was a couple of weeks ago and it was probably my best b-day of my adult life. It actually fell on a Sunday but the entire weekend was perfect. Saturday I set a personal best 10k time, played LotR CCG, then Sarah took me out to one of the best dinners of my life (and definitely the fanciest). We went to Canlis which lived up to its reputation as incredibly upscale. The food was amazing, what you'd expect from an award-winning rising star chef, but in the end we actually liked Elemental better. Still, I can see going again. It was delightful.
Then for my actual birthday I got exactly what I wanted which was to sit around and relax. We got diner-style breakfast at a new place, set up our Christmas tree, and then Sarah headed off to a movie with her friend. She was very careful to make sure I was cool with her running off on my b-day but it actually worked perfectly: I played Arkham City for three hours and drank a beer. Then we ran a few errands, got some mexican for dinner, and generally relaxed. It was awesome. And I got a great new sweater, some cool design books, an awesome watch, a Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar(!) and all kinds of other cool stuff. And Sarah made me a carrot cake. Fan-tastic.
Of course a week after that was Sarah's birthday. I didn't do quite as well for hers as she did for mine but I did manage to get us reservations at a restaurant she really wanted to go to: Sky City, at the top of the Space Needle. The view was indeed impressive and the food wasn't bad. We also went to see the Muppets, did some shopping, and I made a funfetti cake. Awesome birthdays!
Now we're getting ready for Christmas. I think as I get older Christmas gets less cool. Not because I enjoy it less, but because I always get bogged down thinking about past Christmasses and how I want this year's to go. This year is, as always, different than before. I'll be doing Christmas Day with Sarah's family for the first time, which I'm sure will be awesome. The only real downer is that Isaac has to work and therefore won't be hanging around Las Cruces from Christmas to New Years. Getting a few solid days to just hang out, game, talk, and drink was certainly the highlight of last year's holiday season.
Even with that I'm sure it'll be a good time. I think my brother missed out on hanging out with me much over Thanksgiving, so we'll play some games and hang out between X-mas and New Years. And of course there's still plenty of other cool folks to hang out with: Dan, Ben, Amy, Tony.
Hmm, I think that's about it.
