As I Practice Piano, I Feel Like I'm Communicating With an Alien
This column has entered its 13th year. So long~. Come to think of it, my book "okiraku" came from here. That's right, I sent a copy of "okiraku" to Fujiwara Norika-san. In return, she sent me a book of pictures of jeans. So, when her (then) husband Jinnai Tomonori-san guested on "Pussuma" (TV Asahi), I gave him SMAP's CD "Sonomama" along with a letter. This sort of thing is Okiraku-ism, isn't it? It made me kind of happy to realize how I'm connected to people in this way.
Moving on, today I'm going to answer questions received by the editing department. First is the question, "What kind of girl's fashion do you like lately?" I like Tanaka Rena-chan's denim shorts. They're what Riko wears around the house in "Ryokiteki na kanojo" ('08 TBS), and as you know, I like beautiful legs. Riko wearing denim shorts makes me go "Whoa!" And behind the scene, when Riko isn't around, I tell the costume manager to have her wear them again sometime.
Next is, "Right now, what OO-teki na (OO-y) Kusanagi Tsuyoshi would you describe yourself as?" I'm almost dangerously fired up, so probably "Vigorously Burning-teki." I've worked almost 20 years as a celebrity, and this is the busiest I've ever been. Like I just started. You'd think I just debuted! (laugh) On the other hand, having this much work is a wonderful thing. On top of that, I'm practicing piano right now. I have to play "Pachelbel's Canon" in the drama. It's a minute and a half long. And with both hands, of course. So for almost a month now, I've been getting home at close to 1 a.m., practicing until about four in the morning, sleeping for an hour, then going to work again every day. I write numbers on my fingers, and while looking at the numbers on the sheet music, spend each night like I'm communicating with an alien (laugh). By doing that, I've become able to play it. The teacher said, "It's a miracle!" It'll be a really nice scene in episode 7. Look forward to it. "Are you using the Hermes Birkin bag you got on Bistro?" Not yet. It's a precious item, so in the future, I want to give it to the person I marry. I wonder who that will be~.
Last, "Why do you drink so much water?" I get this a lot. I wonder why? Maybe my body wants it because I'm so fired up. For one scene of the drama, I normally drink a 500mL bottle, so I might be drinking almost 10 liters a day. Though, when I'm not doing anything, I don't drink any at all. You might be picturing rows of water bottles in my fridge at home, but there isn't even one in there. I drink tap water when I'm thirsty. With the feeling, "Thank you, Tokyo!" (laugh)
