Hamas
Hamas, the political group currently holding the Palestinian legislation, is more militant than Fatha. That's scary. But somehow Carter waltzed in and convinced them to concider recognizing Israel. Meshaal took this all back and said that it was more of a truce than formal recognition, but sweet jesus. It's a little sad that Carter is able to convince one of the most militant political organizations ever to offer a truce, yet he can't even get Israel or the U.S. to talk to them. Like they're real people, God forbid. Or, Allah forbid.
The truce includes making Jerusalem a Palestinian capital, so it's very unlikely that Israel will take much notice, but just the fact that it happened, is a big deal.
Way to go Carter.
