And I Ran....

Sep 03, 2007 20:08

My new desk together, I sat here at my old dying laptop, the sun filtering on the keys. Try as I might, nothing would come out. Nothing. I knew the plot I knew the people, but with the exception of one book, I didn't really know the place. I was frustrated. So I did something I never thought I'd do....

I ran.

I put on my old exercise shorts...Williams purple. Slowly I put on my new bigger perfect sports bra, and on top of that my new stretchy breathable top. I walked out of my door, and I ran up Hollywood Blvd. Until I hit Cahuegna. But I didn't really get anywhere. I didn't really solve anything. Even though It was hot and I lacked a water bottle I still needed to go somewhere. I stopped at a convenience store and quickly purchased a bottle of water, and then promptly ran the other way.

I ran past glossy Hollywood. I ran until the clubs were boarded up. Until the streets seemed run down. I headed across the freeway running still, running right deep into Little Armenia. As I ran further, the plot and desire came back. The more I ran the more I knew.

I also felt at home for the first time in this city. Hollywood is the only sub city in LA that ever welcomed me. Hollywood was the only place where I felt confident running down the street, thinking and dreaming as I went along. Not the glossy side of the street, but the winding passages of the other side of the Blvd. Gnarled palm trees and beautiful soaring apartments. It felt like a little piece of home.

All in all my run was over an hour, the longest I have ever run...even on a treadmill.

By the end of my journey I knew a few important facts creatively.

Novels wise:
Rabiyya doesn't stay on the east coast. She must move to Hollywood, and stay in the apartment on Gower.

Clothing wise:
I am not going to stop making my clothing. God willing you'll be able to buy ViolentBelle clothing after Christmas.

Photography wise:

I am going to continue running. This time I'm going to bring my old battered camera. We'll see what becomes of it.

All in all, it was a pretty damn productive day.
