It's time for another Grand Prix, this time in Qatar at Lusail International Circuit. Also the final Sprint weekend of the year.
- If you weren't here last week, Max Verstappen has officially won the WDC
- If McLaren gets a 1-2 finish they secure the Constructors Championship
- It's colder than last year (thankfully), but because it's colder the track is quicker. The drivers are predicting they will have a very physically strenuous race.
What happened in qualifying?
Q1:
- Russell tops the session
- Tsunoda just about squeezes by into Q2
- Zhou also gets into Q2 for the second race in a row
- Ocon, Colapinto, Hulkenberg, Lawson, and Albon out
Q2:
- Between the Sprint race and qualifying, Red Bull has done some voodoo to their car, because it went from being a "rally car" (Vertappen's words) to being in contention
- Sainz has an unsafe release in the pit lane, but nothing comes of it
- Old man Alonso fails to set a time until the very final lap, but is able to get through with only one attempt
- Verstappen gets the fastest lap
- Perez does surprisingly well this session and hangs around P6-P5
- Then in true Perez style he weirdly doesn't try a final lap, and is almost eliminated. He goes through in P10
- Mostly because Gasly hits a curb in his final lap and misses out on Q3 by 0.012 seconds
- Stroll, Tsunoda, Bottas and Zhou also out
Q3:
- Russell tops the session from the start, but Verstappen looks quick
- Alonso also looks really quick, but has his lap time deleted
- Ferrari does not have a very good session and ends up P5 and P7
- Idk what happened to the promise of Alsono, but he only gets P8 in the end.
- Pole is between Verstappen and Russell, and it's close
- Verstappen on pole. Russell P2 and Norris P3
- What's this though? In a replay it looks like Verstappen may have impeded Russell slightly by going too slow during their outlaps. It's been noted by Race Control.

UPDATE: Verstappen has been given a 1-place grid penalty for the indecent with Russell during qualifying. Russell starts P1 and Verstappen P2.
https://www.instagram.com/f1/p/DDAcnk6Ni62/ What happened in the (very boring) Sprint Race?
- Lando Norris on Sprint pole
- Sergio Perez started from the pit lane, so did Franco Colapinto
- In a bizarre move, Perez somehow missed that the light had turned green and kept sitting in the pit lane, leading him to get overtaken by Colapinto.
Perez.... just sleeping through the start????? Like? The way Colapinto just said bye 😭😭

November 30, 2024 - Piastri overtook Russell in the start, and moved up into P2
- The next twelve laps were pretty much a formation lap with nothing happening except Russell having several futile attempts at trying to overtake Piastri, who kept getting DRS from Norris in front
- We got a quick preview of the Ferrari lineup for next year when Leclerc overtook Hamilton

November 30, 2024 - Aaand another six laps of a single procession
- Before crossing the finish line, Norris purposely let Piastri get by (despite the team telling him not to THREE TIMES), making up for
the Brazil sprint, in which Piastri was forced to give his lead to Norris
- Piastri is the Sprint Winner!
- Norris admitted in his official post-race interview he doesn't give a shit about winning Sprint races lmao
