I really dislike (because I feel like I don’t know how hate feels) JK for being what she is now. Harry Potter was my whole youth from 11 until I was 21 and I’ve met so many friends through various channels. I always wanted to go the universal studios and the London studio tours but she just put this black cloud over it.

Sorry for the rant. I actually wanted to say:

And a few years ago I would’ve loved the show because the movies weren’t that good and I get that the HBO just wants money but now it’s not really a good idea anymore.

Yeah, I always felt the series was better suited to TV but I can’t watch this.

"(because I feel like I don’t know how hate feels)"

Even after this month?

I get what you mean but idk, I feel like for me hating someone could mean that I would be able to kill that person and while I can’t say what I wish for the orange man, I also know that I couldn’t kill someone? I know it’s probably not making any sense

Yeah I don't think that's the common definition of hatred

That may be but I don’t know how hatred should feel. I despise Donald Trump and I‘ mostly glad that I live in Germany but I have no effing clue what hatred feels like

It's pretty much the same thing as despising

This is where I'm at. Harry Potter was so formative for me growing up but now I can't even engage with it even on a fandom level because she's just poisoned everything. Bleh. It sucks because there's so many talented artists and writers in the HP fandom but I just can't do it anymore.

Same. I even canceled my tickets to see Cursed Child when it first came out. I just had too much of a bad taste in my mouth.

Sometimes I do try to read fanfic but my weird ship is mostly AU anyway but it also happens not that often

Same. It's such a dark cloud over this world that used to be so fun. My family waited in line at a bookstore all night for Book 5.

The Wizarding World at Universal Studios is sooooooo good, Disney ass good, especially at Christmas.

But no, she has to be an absolute piece of shit.

I remember that I wanted to be a translator because of Harry Potter because I felt like some things could’ve been done better (though nothing was as bad for me as reading the literal translation of John Snows‘s name in A Song of Fire and ice) and it just was this huge thing for everyone my age.

And now a friend told me that I’m not a good enough ally to queer people because I didn’t want to throw away my books and funko pops and bought Lego Harry Potter for the Switch years ago and it’s just so not what it should be like

That's so extreme 😓

I don't see how throwing away things from the past moves the needle. What makes people an ally is speaking up. Leveraging your privilege to protect someone vulnerable, pushing back.

What bugs me about rejecting all things HP to confirm allyship, is that it's not all and only JK's work. There are so many talented creatives involved in the production of the universe - music, merch, books, games, toys, theme parks, and especially the film visuals. Disavowing everything means disavowing years of those people's time and art too. Thousands of people.

I was thinking out loud here recently about Michael Jackson music, wondering if his death releases his benefit from our listening to it. Does death make it okay to re-enjoy art from people who massively let us down? I was also thinking the benefits now go to his kids. Then someone pointed out that MJ's estate profits, and it's the estate that handles lawsuits/re-traumatizes victims of his abuse. So... no. Not until MJ's estate stops battling victims.

I don't think even JK' ( ... )

Yes, I mean, she got the money already. I bought the books when they first came out so me throwing them away would help no one.
And I get that the hate JK is spewing is horrible and causes hate against trans people and that’s why I haven’t spend money on her anymore. But like you said, there are so many other people in there as well.

I never really liked MJs music but I understand what you mean. I feel that Chris brown is also an example. He should have no career anymore but with him people don’t seem to care?
