My mom & sister were in town this week, but we still managed to get some movies in!
Took everyone to Emilia Pérez, and everyone was very ??? on it. Like, no one hated it or anything, but everyone thought it was trying to do way too much, and didn't do any of it well.
Took my sister to an early Queer screening with a Daniel Craig Q&A. We both loved it - definitely less accessible than something like Challengers, but a beautiful look at loneliness. Jason Schwartzman is great comic relief. Daniel Craig gave great Q&A as well.
Then yesterday, while my husband took my mom to see Mike Myers do a Vulture Fest interview about his career, I went to see Challengers for a third time. Afterward, there was a Q&A with Luca Guadagnino + the screenwriter, the editor and the costume designer. So, so fun to see that movie in a packed theater, and I love it more every time I see it. Right now, that and Dune 2 are my favorite films of the year by a mile.
The Q&A was fantastic - Luca was clearly pretty tired after a long press day, but super funny as usual, and we learned some wild shit - he doesn't shoot any coverage! This was the costume designer's first film in that role! They had the rough edit together almost immediately after they were done shooting! Etc. When this movie gets no Oscar noms, I am going to be so sad. :/
My fam has now headed home, so this week, we're gonna catch up on Heretic, and see Gladiator on Thursday, at the very least. Hoping to get to more, though.

Us in the ONTD watch party were not fans of Emilia Perez. I grant that it swung for the fences, but it just fell so flat.
