I am soooo glad Buck and Tommy broke up. Not even because I’m a Buddie shipper (I’d like it but don’t believe it’ll happen) but the Tommy guy was a terrible actor and they had NEGATIVE chemistry. Watching them have romantic convos was unbearable.

I also thought the speech about how Buck shouldn’t judge him for treating Abby horribly was dumb as hell.

yeah, like i do think buck needed to consider tommy's position in all of that. but tommy literally said abby "went nuts" and dated a guy half her age...as if buck is not also half his age at a minimum? buck also saw how much abby was struggling in season one and he was ready to help shoulder all of that with her. he's not hung up on her still, but he clearly has a love for her still.

so it could've been way more nuanced, actually show a bit more of buck realizing he was totally overcorrecting, sweeping things under the way he seemingly has this entire relationship

yeah, it just all felt so flat. like, what we know of tommy from the flashbacks is that he was an asshole and shitty to Chimney and Hen when he first met them, so he was probably a huge asshole to Abby as well. i think it's reasonable for Buck to be like "oh damn, I don't actually know this guy." even IF we're supposed to believe that he's changed and grown which I can actually accept, having josh just be like "well if you love him you shouldn't judge him because you're privileged" is truly an insane way to think about a person's past shitty behaviors. Especially because like you said, Tommy was still hella dismissive of Abby's experience when he brought her up to Buck.

it's also weird because Buck has done the same overcorrecting before with the reporter he dated (who i actually really liked) asking her to move in when he cheated on her and it's like, are the writers really not going to state the obvious parallels lol

oh yeah, the reporter was named taylor kelly so this was them kinda re-doing that. but throughout season 7 and 8 the show has softly been reintroducing themes or story beats they've done before kind of re-establishing itself on the new network. the choice to echo the season 5 breakup is a little derivative (bc they don't acknowledge that he's done this before, that he is a clinger - especially bc this episode had maddie and chimney acknowledging what happened to them in s5, and the promise not to run again) but the potential to be interesting if they keep pulling that thread.

the maddie and josh convo was funny on its face, but i kind of wish he talked to bobby about it lol. maddie never liked abby, so her advice was kinda flippant. and then josh was misguided as hell, and the show didn't play it like that! buck was well within his right to be weirded out about it and having that change his opinion on tommy, even if tommy was also hurting during that relationship

Oliver was truly the only one putting any effort into trying to sell Buck/Tommy. Half the time, it seemed like the characters didn't even like each other that much lmao
