i got slammed into on the freeway technically also rear ended by a guy going like 55-60mph. just didnt notice 2 lanes were fully at a stop in traffic. i saw it coming for sure, i was looking at all my mirrors and realized my rear view mirror the dude was not slowing down at all. i was essentially stuck and had no options to move out of the way. so i just sat there ready to take the hit and thought welp, i guess i might die. because i accepted my fate lol and was calm about it, i had less than 2 weeks of light whiplash and a handful of bruises. the paramedics and police that came out were confused to see my light injuries and walking just fine. but my car scrunched up like it was supposed to to absorb the impact and i guess it helped i was also short. paramedic said if i was taller i would have two broken legs lol

I can’t imagine how scary that was looking back but damn, glad you reacted the way you did which ultimately saved you a lot of rehab and maybe even your life??

despite such high speed impact that caused like a 7 car hit domino effect and my own car pushed into the next lane, my car airbag didnt go off whomp whomp. i think toyota corolla had a recall for airbags soon after LOL. but the thing is, the airbag woulda hurt me even more so its a good thing it didnt release. and despite the airbag malfunction, the back of the car really did scrunch up and absorb the impact really well as designed. the way the paramedics explained the height thing helping me is that me being 5ft tall, im small enough where my body didnt bounce around in the car. that basically just an average height person would have jostled hard enough around that theyd have at minimum broken legs from the spots where i had only bruises.
plus i kept my car in good condition, so my insurance paid out the market price of the car. i buy used, the insurance payout market price was higher than what i bought my car for LOL. it sucked not having a car for a few weeks but it ended up well for me overall lmao.
moral of the story - wear your seatbelt, buy japanese cars, and stay calm in potential imminent death situations
