The man whose movie X3 was so hated that he was given a completely new chance not only to write another version of the Dark Phoenix story but got to direct it this time too. And it was even worse?

White men stay failing upwards, holy shit

His plan was for there to be two movies, Phoenix and Dark Phoenix and it would have been more faithful to the comics with the Hellfire Club and Shi'ar Empire. Then the studio forced them to make it one film and there were tons of reshoots as well.

Or the guy is just not a good writer and an even worse director. His writing and producing history is basically "what's bad about Hollywood".

There is no “or” here, in the case of Dark Phoenix it’s obvious at least in this case the studio fucked everything over late in the game. I doubt for example Jessica Chastain signed on to play some generic alien, she probably was going to be Lilandra.

I couldn’t care less about Kinberg but he also wrote the film X-Men: Days of Future Past as well.

You're so funny. Days of Future Past wasn't great either.

Days of Future Past got a lot of hype and goodwill on the back of First Class (which was the more interesting movie imo, even if it pissed me off with how Darwin was treated) and the crazy amount of cameos it managed to pull off. It succeeded in being the most MCU-like Sony project, for sure, but that's not inherently a great thing.

Idk. It was good enough, but I don't think it was the love letter to the comics I would've needed to be properly hyped and optimistic for a split Phoenix story from him. Not to mention Sophie Turner's wooden acting and Jennifer Lawrence also being there, which isn't his fault.

I feel like X-Men is at its best when it's episodic, like in the cartoon or the comics themselves. I hope we get a live-action series before another movie.
