A 13 year old girl approached several limo drivers after the 2000 MTV VMAs to try to get into the after parties.

Where the hell are your parents?

This is not to say that their parents shouldn’t have had a closer eye on their kid because they absolutely should’ve-NY kids and teens are built differently, the city is their playground. This reminds me of the 13 y/o girl who died subway surfing the other day and everyone asking where the parents are. Kids and teens carelessly run amuck in the city, oblivious to the dangers that might befall them.

And the 2000 VMAS was at Radio City Music Hall/very much hyped to have kids come down and be part of the crowd outside, similar to TRL

teenagers and young adults often don't have a real grasp of how dangerous the world is. I wasn't a wild child or anything but whenever I think of the few times I lied to my parents, I can't help but thank my lucky stars that nothing bad happened. there's a famous case in Brazil of a teenager who lied about going on a camping trip with her boyfriend [TRIGGER WARNING]and they ended up crossing paths with an absolute psycopath - who was only a teenager as well - and the couple was violently murdered, with the girl enduring a terrible ordeal for days.

Yes, there are a lot of negligent parents out there but a lot of times the only thing that keeps someone, especially those most vulnerable, from experiencing violence is just sheer luck.

I'm tempted to ask what this case is but I don't know if I want to know. :(
