He hates onions now.
Me, on the other hand, like onions. I prefer the mild white ones. The red are nice too, but if I have them raw on a sandwich they bother my stomach. They're really good baked on a BBQ chicken pizza though.

I love raw onions and hate cooked onions.

Same - I hated onions as a kid. Whenever my mom made spaghetti, I would ask her to make sure the onion pieces were really big (instead of a fine dice) so that I could spot them easily, fish them out, and not eat them. I didn't mind the onion taste. I just didn't like chewing onions or having them in my mouth. It didn't matter if they were raw or cooked.
But then at some point after high school, I started to tolerate them. I specifically remember this happened after high school because during high school, my friends and I went to the same Mexican restaurant all the time and I would dip my tortilla chips in salsa but make sure there were no onion chunks on the chip before I ate it.
By my mid-20s, I liked onions. I have no idea how or why it happened. There wasn't an aha moment where I had a new dish and suddenly loved onions, but I definitely love them now. I love caramelized onions, raw onions, you name it. I wish I could make this happen with other foods that I dislike but so far, onions are the only major turn around I've had.
