I just finished ME2 (Legendary Edition) earlier today and jumped right into ME3 afterwards. I feel cheated as hell?? Why the heck did we go through hell and highwater with Cerberus to stop the Collectors (AND I LOST ONE OF MY FAVORITE TEAMMATES WHILE AT IT WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING WHY*) and gain knowledge on the Reapers, just to wake up in ME3 with the Reapers all over Earth?? I understand the appeal of starting a story in media res but come the fuck on. Not to mention Cerberus is already being evil again killing the very people the Illusive Man sworn to us he wanted to protect at all costs.
ME2 was such a huge leap in quality from ME1 that I was honestly not expecting it to be like this now. I can already tell ME2 will remain my favorite in the trilogy just from the little I've seen of ME3. ME2 was very close to perfection. Story-wise, 100/10. I only had a few gripes with it gameplay-wise, like the removal of the inventory and map, and some other stupid things I'm not sure why they'd change like the ability to go back in the Normandy without literally taking off from where you were.
But I am so in love with almost all the characters that even if ME3 turns out to be the worst out of the 3, I will stick with it just to have more of them.
*I did look up why Mordin dies in the Suicide Mission and ugh if only I had known to send him back to the ship or put him in my team :cries: I loved him so much.... apparently not enough to replay the mission to save him though Oh well, I'll definitely save him should I play it again!

I was going to read your comment once I finished mine 😫😫😫 I freakin’ LOVE the mass effect series, so I will be coming back for your comment alone!
Edit:
Okay, I’m leaving my original comment because the fact that you figured out spoiler cuts while I was writing mine is hilarious.
[Spoiler (click to open)]I lost Tali in my first play through, I won’t comment what I want to say because I will not spoil for you. Mordin’s death in ME3 had me SOBBING. I would highly suggest watching it on YouTube once you’re done with the game if you don’t replay them.
ME2 is easily one of my favorite games of all time. I liked ME3 a lot, I just compartmentalize the ending! I’m just so happy you’re experiencing these games! Love them!
[spoilery spoilers]The ME3 ending comes up a lot everywhere I look (no spoilers, just the general consensus/sentiment about it), and I'm already dreading it lol Now that I know how it starts, I get a feeling I know how it will end and why it left everyone so disappointed. Alas, I will find out for myself whether I'll join the chorus or not.
Ah, Mordin... I didn't know he died in ME3 anyway :cries: Welp, at least I got to watch him sing :') And I'm this close to making it my ringtone because I love it so much.
I'm really curious how you lost Tali in your playthrough, was it in the Suicide Mission or earlier? Because I got her to go in the vents at the start of that mission and I guess she could've died there if I didn't manage to open the passages for her, but I don't remember any other ways prior to that where she could've died.
Without trying to be too spoilery for you, but I'll cut it in case:
[Spoiler (click to open)]The way you lose companions during the Suicide Mission is by either a) the way you treated them prior to it or b) assigning them to an inappropriate role during it.
This is more or less what happened to my Mordin :( I didn't know his defense was too low to keep him with the second team. I took Thane and Kasumi with me, Jacob went to escort Dr. Chakwas, and Garrus was leading the second team. Apparently I needed to have him escort Dr. Chakwas back to the ship, which doesn't make sense to me exactly because he's not a soldier (though I guess even that isn't true because we all know he was killing baddies left and right when we recruited him), or taken him with me. I feel like we should've gotten some kind of warning about these decisions.
Oh and then I also learned that the squad members who aren't loyal also die in the mission, but all mine were.
[Spoiler (click to open)]OMG! I am THE WORST! I just reread your comment and when you mentioned him dying in the suicide mission in ME2, I read that COMPLETELY incorrectly and thought you mentioned knowing what happened to him in ME3. I suck. Well, now you know that even if you did go back a save to keep him alive, you would have been that much more devastated in ME3. So, you’re welcome? Ugh! I’m so mad at myself. But legit, I was SOBBING. It was such a beautiful/terrible/wonderful end to his story. Ugh! Fuck you Mordin! I love you!
As for Tali. I could not tell you. I know I accidentally didn’t finish her loyalty mission and that’s how I got her killed. I DIDN’T KNOW AT THE TIME! I’m sorry, Tali!!!! I think I’m going to look up how she dies in the suicide mission because it was so long ago and I’ve kept EVERYONE alive on all subsequent playthroughs.
Oh and this is relating to ME1. My first ME game was ME2, since I’m on PlayStation and ME1 wasn’t released for us until after ME2 came out. So they had this like comic book “choose your own adventure” at the beginning of ME2 for the major decisions that carried over. I chose to keep Kaiden alive, because what did I care, and then I HATED him in ME2. So when I replayed the series from ME1 I specifically saved Ashley, thinking she wouldn’t be the terrible racist asshole Kaiden was, but NOPE she was just as bad! Third play through I was like … can I kill them both off??? Spoilers, you can’t.
[Spoiler (click to open)]Don't worry about the Mordin thing, it's okay! I won't look the scene up though, I'm going to save the tears for another day when I play again and save him. I have been spoiled about other deaths (or at least one other) that happen in ME3 and my poor little heart is already suffering in advance ;__;
Oh shucks, you lost Tali because she wasn't loyal! I almost didn't even recruit her, but then I did literally everything else before the Suicide Mission and decided not to be a lazy ass loser and just go and get her as well. So glad I did! I really enjoyed the little Migrant Fleet storyline. But yeah if I had slacked off with any loyalty mission I'd have learned about their fates the hard way as well. And I think she must die exactly the same way as Mordin, it's probably a RNG thing that the game decides according to which of them you assign to do what.
ME1 wasn’t released for us until after ME2 came out
Oh no what were they thinking D:
This is so weird about Kaidan! I don't remember him being racist at all? Could it be that it was changed in the Legendary Edition? Because that playthrough is still fresh in my mind and I'm pretty sure only Ashley was racist (or at least vocally so). Perhaps Kaidan had some suspicious lines that I'm not recalling right now... And then we only see him that one time on Horizon in ME2, and I understand why he's pissed when he finds out Shep is with Cerberus after all the horrible things they had uncovered about Cerb in the first game.
I guess it couldn't hurt to play the Legendary Edition (if you haven't yet) just to make sure you didn't get the wrong impression about him... hahaha

I'm honestly so jealous you get to experience Mass Effect for the first time! Part of me wishes I could go back to do it all over again. ME2 is also my fave <3
Re: Yay it got through! On time! TY mods!!siahtOctober 20 2024, 22:39:47 UTC
And even though I'm more than a decade late to the party, I'm glad I'm experiencing it now and not as it came out. I feel like I can appreciate it much more now as an Old haha
Re: Yay it got through! On time! TY mods!!fauxkarenOctober 20 2024, 23:09:19 UTC
[Spoiler (click to open)]ME2 is probably technically the best of the trilogy... BUT I am a Kaidan-romancer and he's not in ME2 so lmao I gotta give ME3 the edge in that category.
Also lol try not to feel too bad about Mordin dying in ME2, most players kill him in ME3 anyway. (Sorry Mordin ilu but it's the right choice for the plot.)
Re: Yay it got through! On time! TY mods!!fauxkarenOctober 20 2024, 23:15:41 UTC
I forgive him for Horizon because he thought I was dead and then I'm back and working with Cerberus? I would be skeptical of me too. We work it out in ME3 so it's fine. lol
Re: Yay it got through! On time! TY mods!!siahtOctober 21 2024, 00:18:59 UTC
[Spoiler (click to open)]I play male Shepard, I tried with all my might to romance him in ME1 but the game wasn't having it 🥺
I hear that's possible in ME3, and Idk if he's the only male squad member I will be able to romance as male Shep, but if not then I think I might go for a certain Archangel who's stolen my heart all during ME2........
