His death didn't serve any purpose except for making Lorne, who had always stayed neutral and provided safe place to everyone with his bar, a murderer. I was so pissed when I watched that scene. Now in hindsight, with everything we know about Whedon, I wonder if this was a final 'fuck you' to one or both of the actors for some reason.

I doubt it was any deep meaning. It was the series finale, Joss likes to have someone die.

Even though people get mad about Anya dying in Chosen, Emma Caufield wanted Anya dead originally.

whedon does make looking back fondly on these shows so hard.

also, the irony of angel wanting lindsey dead because he could never truly be trusted to do good when he can become angelus any day and has illyria, spike and his half demon son at his side.

Thank you, it did not make sense to me back then and still doesn't. I guess we'll never know since Andy Hallet sadly is not here anymore and Christian Kane doesn't talk about stuff like that. He's still close friends with Charisma Carpenter though.
