Same, I remember it being the same as well in the season 3 episode which introduces her parents for the first time and it looks like she’s going back with them, it literally just has all the characters sitting around bonding about how amazing Fred is and what are they going to do without her, only for her to come bursting back through the door to the rescue when the hotel gets attacked by bugs or something

Amy was fine as Fred, but it was just painfully obvious at times that the male writers had this creepy obsession with how giggly and sweet Fred was. (The superior Fred episodes, like the one when she turned darker and went to kill her old professor who had trapped her in Pylea, were written by two women). I believe that Charisma too has alluded to feeling replaced by Fred as leading lady by the time of season 4, that the network were making it obvious that they favoured Amy in promotion because she was younger and thinner

Illyria was such the superior character compared to how much of a Mary Sue they made Fred, it’s just a shame that they didn’t introduce her a lot earlier,

Yeah, season 4 literally has Cordelia stuck with Connor the entire time while Fred stays with the group and has a lot more to do. They both could have co-existed without sidelining Cordelia and I know a big part of what happened was because of Whedon and his dislike of Charisma, but damn it still makes me so mad.
