General Hospital Stealth Recasts Legacy Character

Just a few weeks after announcing that former All My Children actor Alexa Havins has been cast as Lulu Spencer, General Hospital adds yet another member of the Spencer family, this time with former As The World Turns actor Van Hansis taking over the role of Lulu's cousin, Lucas Jones

I honestly would not be sad if the show got canceled. It hasn't been good since right after the pandemic for long periods of time. There are pockets of brilliance, basically anything where Molly tears into Kristina is glorious, but for the most part it has been very bad all year.

Carly's trajectory, however, somewhat makes sense. She is the eldest biological Spencer (Laura will always be the Spencer matriarch emeritus, sure, but she's not even using that name anymore), the Spencer who has been on the canvas the longest in terms of time on the show and Bobbie's daughter. They've noted how much Bobbie's death has impacted Carly, so it makes sense that the character would try and be that pillar of Spencer strength that her mother was.

What they need to do, though, is basically either have someone call Carly out on the fact that she'll always default to being selfish and putting Sonny's needs over everyone else and then have it actually change some of her actions or have her realize it her damn self. But they won't do that, because as much as I love Carly, and know what her flaws are, the show refuses to allow her to be held accountable for those flaws or actions in the service of primping her, Sonny and Jason as the "holy trinity of Port Charles."

i love having it as a constant. i stop watching for years but know i can go back and watch at any time. i’ll be sad but it’s honestly so bad that it needs to be put out of its misery. new molly has been a blessing though. i never even liked kristina but mansi has me missing lexi.

last time i liked carly she was played by tamara braun son. her suddenly caring so much about her cousins is too hard to take serious 🫣
as a jasam fan it doesn’t even pain me to say that jason should be in jail serving consecutive life sentences and sonny should be dead by now.

Carly and Tracy shared a lot of the burden helping Lulu through her teen years while Laura was busy drooling over in Europe or whatever. And then Carly kind of cut Lulu off after Lulu decided that her mans was more important than her cousin and her actions led to Carly's son, still technically a minor I believe, getting sexually assaulted in prison. So Carly kind of washing her hands clean of Lulu made sense on some level. But for a few years there, Lulu was more like a sister or even surrogate daughter than a cousin, and people tend to forget that because "Carly can have no virtues."
