General Hospital Stealth Recasts Legacy Character

Sep 27, 2024 12:40

Just a few weeks after announcing that former All My Children actor Alexa Havins has been cast as Lulu Spencer, General Hospital adds yet another member of the Spencer family, this time with former As The World Turns actor Van Hansis taking over the role of Lulu's cousin, Lucas Jones.

Unlike the casting of Alexa, Van's casting announcement comes with a premiere air date, which is one week from the date of the announcement, October 4th, 2024! General Hospital is believed to tape about a month earlier than the air date of any given episode, meaning that this information was kept quiet for some time, which is somewhat surprising given that Van Hansis is a multiple Daytime Emmy nominee and known for playing one of the first openly gay soap characters, Luke Snyder.

Moreover, the casting of Hansis continues General Hospital's now impossible to deny agenda of "rebuilding" the Spencer family, one of the most prominent families in the history of the show. Lucas Jones is the adopted son of Dr. Tony Jones and Nurse Bobbie Spencer. Lucas is also the adopted half-brother of the lead female character, Carly Spencer and the uncle of her passel of children that are on the show. He is also the biological half-brother of Samantha McCall, who is allegedly leaving the long running program, unless the vocal fanbase gets their wish and she somehow remains or is rehired. The character of Lucas has never been used to the fullest potential of the character, and was last portrayed by the longest tenured performer in the role, Ryan Carnes, for a few days earlier this year as the character mourned the passing of his mother, which was written as a result of performer Jackie Zeeman's real life passing. Even during those episodes, however, Lucas had a handful of lines and was given no real "standout" moments, in spite of being the only one of Bobbie's two children that she actually raised from childhood.

I was super surprised by this news! I just pray that, no matter how desperate General Hospital is to do something to deal with this ratings erosion, they don't offer Tony Geary's ungrateful decrepit ass any amount of money to get Luke Spencer back. Keep his ass 'dead' and let Tony enjoy the good life in Amsterdam! That's a specific prayer, so hopefully the Waiting to Exhale rule of praying specific works out!
