Last night was Salem's Lot, for the first night of Beyond Fest 2024. It was okay, not great - definitely would have spooked me as a kid though, so maybe it's better aimed at a young adult audience. I think the story really needs a limited series to cover all the good stuff. Lewis Pullman is a cutie, and I always enjoy Alfre Woodard and Bill Camp. I think it'll be on Max soon. They handed out the book to people in line, so I will probably reread it - haven't touched it in 15 years or so, but remember loving it!
Tuesday night's movie was The Substance, which I liked, but thought was overly long + gross. And on Monday, we saw Megalopolis, which is definitely in contention for one of the worst movies I've seen this year. The critics giving it four stars on Letterboxd... jail.
Tonight, we've got Lee, which I gather is going to be an also-ran for awards, considering the fact that it premiered at last year's TIFF and they are just bringing it out for release now. But I like the cast, and it sounds interesting, so I will be watching.
Over the next few days, we've got Total Recall for Beyond Fest, Saturday Night with a Jason Reitman Q&A, and The Fall for Beyond Fest with a Tarsem Singh Q&A. Will have to catch The Wild Robot next week or the week after. It's definitely that time of year for my A-List reservations to be (over)booked and busy.
