Johnny Marr has been wanting to register The Smiths' name since 2018 so that third parties cannot profit off the band. Morrissey never responded, so Marr registered it himself

I mean, I don't hold it against Johnny given the Morrissey of it all but lollll, it's true that everyone else seems to be imploding since the Oasis reunion was announced 😭

It's all the rock bands, too! How is rock or even grunge ever supposed to stage a comeback? We need new talent I guess.

because the ~aesthetic came back first. the last successful rock boom - the garage rock revival of the early 2000s - was led music-first.

i think a big part we haven't had a rock genre revival is because being in a band is expensive (purchasing and hauling instruments to gigs) and cities where a new scene might spring up are prohibitively expensive. you need a scene to develop a sound, online-only feedback isn't enough (it's fantastic for exposure to new music and to promote your own, though!).

it's kind of a bummer, really.

makes sense, I was also wondering why my baby emos only came back in spirit and not sound, and when you get influences its always diluted with terrible production. nothing happens, people just bring back eyeliner. meanwhile being rich is like the antithesis of good rock.
