The thing that makes the cancellation so bad is she almost certainly could've announced it sooner lol weren't there journalists hinting at it like, 2 weeks prior?! Anyways, the fact I didn't even know this was tonight is a perfect example of why it wasn't worth it, lol. Great song, though.

Also, self identifying as Joan of Arc is so Morrissey lmao.

I said it in the live post but given how underwhelming the performance was it would've been better had they just telecast from one of her euro shows because I think she would've given better energy.

After the performance I kept thinking, yep her Euro fans have a right to be pissed.

Missed opportunity. That would've been so cool.

i think the chance to accept an award live was also a reason she went tbh, i assume they could guess she was probably going to win best new artist

Yeah and she was pretty happy to win.

Agree, it would have been just as effective

What has me going huh about the whole speculation about Chappell performing at the VMAs or not on ONTD and other online spaces, is that she was one of the first performers announced.

So this post to this post confused me cause it was always confirmed she was performing.

Damn, so it's even worse! Yeah idg how they allowed this to happen. Canceling the shows was gonna piss ppl off no matter what, but canceling them like 48 hours before lights on is CRAZY, so avoidable.

Not just hinting; she was announced as a performer on August 12th. Doesn't really make sense why they couldn't just go ahead and announce the cancellation then instead of waiting until the 29th and cancelling at two day's notice when it's pretty likely that some of the audience coming from farther away would already have been travelling and getting refunds for hotels/such would be much less likely than with an earlier cancellation. And ofc her team will have known about this even earlier so either an early cancellation or blocking out the time ahead of time would seem much more sensible than a last minute cancellation that inevitably resulted in more time and money wasted for the audience?

I think her team might have misjudged how much long the rehearsals would have taken because the show itself didn’t overlap with any of the cancelled dates. I think they panicked and started cancelling and shuffling things last minute when MTV was like yeah we have pyro and dancers throwing swords around, we need her in rehearsals 2 weeks before the show.

Could be! It's interesting that two days made such a big difference rehearsals-wise when there would still have been well over a week left for rehearsals after that.
