I'm a big fan of Pratchett and I'm just glad we got a great first season. I didn't feel his influence at all in season 2, so I'm kinda glad if this puts the series to bed.

The plot of season two was genuinely terrible - like I was shocked how bad/boring it was. The whole thing felt like it was filmed on a single soundstage for three days. You could really tell this was like a placeholder season to get to season three.

I was so annoyed when NG was like "Oh yeah, Terry and I had this idea for a continuation and when we get another season I can tell that story!" and then when S2 rolled around it's "Oh yeah, you see, S2 is only the preparation for the story Terry and I wanted to tell. When we get another season only then I can tell that story!" JFC man

Yeah, I remember that too! I just can’t believe with such a crazy fantastical world THAT was the best they could do. I do feel bad for the people who really love the show and what’s happened. I love the book, but consider myself a casual fan of the show. Such a shame. I do have a feeling they won’t cancel it though and they’ll just find a different showrunner. Amazon has too much invested in that franchise.

I only got into GO this year when I finally had time to read the book and watch S1 right when S2 came out. So thankfully I don't have this intense years-long investment like many other people I see on my tumblr dash. But I noticed NG's tendency to dangle new seasons of his projects in front of his fandom like a carrot on a stick. And I get that he has to do that to some extent to promote the shows because streamers are trigger-happy with cancellations these days and all that, but the GO thing was so weirdly obnoxious to me.

In general, I've lost patience with showrunners/writers who end on a cliffhanger or plan more seasons than they're contracted for when we're living in times where anything can and will get cancelled for arbitrary reasons.

I think all the drama behind the spoilers didn’t help as well. I do agree with you, although if I was a betting person… like of course he’s going to talk up the show to get people to watch it, but I have to imagine that when season 2 was greenlit season 3 was as well even if under the table. If he genuinely felt like that was his last opportunity to get out Terry’s vision, which was kind of the whole point of making it into a TV show, I just can’t imagine they would’ve wasted a season on what we got without having the other one in the wings, ya know?

My thoughts exactly! Either he had 2 more seasons in the bag, then the whole posturing about "oh woe is me, if you fans don't campaign I can never tell Terry's vision of the story!" is just a cheap way to engage the fandom. Or he really only had 1 more season for sure and wasted that on this nothing-burger of a story to set up another season that he could never be sure to get. Dick move either way, if you ask me.

I'm convinced it was written purely for people who ship Crowley and Aziraphale, the plot was barely there.

I mean, I don’t understand why they couldn’t do both??? I’m down for that ship. It felt weird all the new characters they introduced and all the screen time they took up; maybe Sheen and Tennant agreed to the season, but didn’t want to commit to a long shot. If that was the case, why not bring back characters from season one? It’s such a fascinating universe, so many things to play with and instead, they chose the most milktoast boring plot.

I didn't read the book but I enjoyed the first season.

The second, I remember very little of it. It felt like a bunch of skits.

I am a Pratchett fan and I liked the first season, but the second season didn't feel like his work at all (which makes sense, because it wasn't - the plot of the book was all adapted in season one) and frankly, it just felt like it was for the fanfiction people/shippers, and good for them, but I'm not one, so I don't feel like I'm losing anything here.
