I have not read these prequel books and I'm glad. Maybe I've gotten soft since having a child. I don't remember ASoIaF being so brutal. I don't want to see children being killed or read about them being ripped to pieces by an angry mob.

MTE. just reading his summary was almost too much for me. granted i haven't read the book but i'm confused as to why he's angry? that he's not going to get that mob scene? ok weirdo

If you actually read what he wrote it goes beyond not just having the mob scene but how it affects the surrounding characters.

Did you not read his post? He explains why he's upset.

I feel like you should definitely read the post, since it's less about the scene and more about how it affects certain characters.

There's definitely child murder in the main series.

Aegon & Rhaenys were brutally murdered at the end of the war prior to the main series. They were I think 1 & 3 years old at the time and apparently Ned Stark was the only person who had issue & wanted the murderers executed or sent to the wall.

The Lannisters have a bunch of Robert's illegitimate children killed under the belief that people may back Robert's flesh & blood as King over someone he shares no blood relation to (Joffrey), etc...

Those felt different to me because they are all in the past and being recounted by someone speaking in the current time, and they weren't characters we know. The only one I can really remember is Aegon, because Oberyn talks about him and the manner of his death graphically. I haven't read any of the House of the Dragon books or seen the show but the Blood and Cheese storyline sounds quite different.

you can tell, reading the books, that gurm is kind of an edgelord. he likes writing 'shocking' scenes of torture and child murder and rape and crazy incest and cannibalism that get amped up more and more the further we get in the series (and then his brain-dead fanboys defend it as um "realism" because everyone in the middle ages was raping toddlers and flaying and eating each other and tearing children to pieces i guess).

i feel like it's kind of lazy because it's such an easy cheap way to get people to have an emotional reaction to the story but it gets kind of boring after a while. there are so many 'shocking' deaths in fire and blood that it's a bit rote

Granted I've never finished reading any of the GOT books but I am currently reading F&B and it's a completely different writing style. There's not really any gore, it's just an "historical" account or record of what happened, without too much editorializing.

Oh interesting. I think I remember that from when it was first coming out, but forgot because the series brings it to life. I got burned out by the GoT show and the long wait between books for ASoIaF so I didn't want to read any additional stories.
