“As she is showing me pictures on her phone, I’m watching her and wondering: What makes a movie star? There are so few left, at least in the old-fashioned sense of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn, and here I sit before one of the last of these rare creatures.”
Uh. Is the last of these rare creatures in the room with us?
A movie star? her? Lord, how much was this "journalist" paid? Some things are subjective but I can't imagine anyone genuinely believing she's has movie star charisma.
The writer of this article is Andrew Sean Greer, the author of Less (a book that a lot of people raved about but I didn't like when I read it several years ago).
Actually as much as I love Audrey and Grace, their beauty and their extraordinary lives (Audrey's work as an ambassador, Grace's royal marriage) were as much a draw as their acting skills - and I do think they were both good actresses but it was these other elements that made them stars. Blake...has one of those three things I guess.
I would say actresses like Zendaya and Angelina Jolie are these kinds of movie stars now - where they are good actresses, but we also want to just want to look at them/know everything about their personal lives. And everyone knows their name.
What a ridiculous claim. I haven't seen a single thing she was in, and neither have most of my rl peers. Even at 94, Tippi Hedren is still more of a movie star with that x factor than this lady.
her last non-reynolds movie, the rhythm section, earned $6 million dollars total and lost the studio an estimated $30-40mn. on its third weekend it grossed $25,602; that weekend it was pulled from 97% of its theaters, making it the biggest third-weekend theater drop in history.
the vast majority of her films are critical and commercial flops.
