Yes people should behave in public but i genuinely wonder why people who value privacy or dont want fame chose a career path like singer or actor. Because what are they hoping happens? Its not a secret that these careers come with a lack of privacy. If they want to be behind the scenes, why not go that route?

Most working musicians and working actors never see fame, and definitely not the levels of fame she achieved. A successful musician is somebody who makes enough money with their art to get by (usually very modestly) and gets invited to play gigs regularly, having millions of fans happens very, very rarely.

Warning somebody "don't be a singer if you don't want to be famous" is warning them about something with a one in a million chance of happening.

She was agreeing to perform at huge and popular festivals right before she blew up. They werent gigs. It seems like she was actively seeking out fame… singers who prefer to stay under the radar or underground wouldnt expose themselves at a festival.

iirc one of the festivals she played recently had to move her from a smaller stage to the main stage because she blew up. all the acts in small font on festival lineup announcements have enough fans to be seen but not enough to be a headliner.

the dream of making a living with your art is enough of a reason to chase it. tbh it's so easy to say fame sucks and walk away from this side, but if i got the opportunity to live my dream and pay the bills with being creative and see great success i would really really hesitate to say no.

plus i think it's impossible to know what that kind of treatment feels like until you experience it.

Hopefully she gets a better or more experienced team that can help her navigate fame

hopefully her fans listen to what she's telling them

Unfortunately thats not gonna happen, because thats not how fame works or has ever worked. I dont think these kind of statements have ever worked for any celebrity in history. In fact, sometimes it makes the harassment worse.

ok and fans can change. rather than letting them do whatever the f they want, just because it's how it's always been, they can learn some decorum.

Mentally stable fans can change, sure. But public figures get stalked and killed by their fans all the time. So the best thing she can do for herself right now is hire security and a better team.

yeah i don't accept that

part of making that change is making that behavior socially unacceptable. not just from the artist but from everyone else. giving it a shrug and saying she should just hire better security is a lazy way to engage with the issue.

saying that she implicitly agreed to having her privacy violated because she shared her work with the public is obtuse. it gives people license to take it too far because you're agreeing with them that she deserves it for not being a recluse. i'm not gonna engage with you about this any further.

there are hundreds of celebrities who have publicly asked their fans to leave them alone, why hasnt it worked for them? why is no one able to make this change if all it takes is speaking out? like doja cat even went so far to say she hates her fans, and nothing changed.

hiring security is not lazy, it is quite literally life changing.

There are plenty of musicians and actors who make a living without ever coming close to hitting this level of fame. Selling out tours of smaller venues, being a series regular but not one of the big names on moderately successful shows, etc.

And most people don't go into these fields expecting to ever become famous.

because 97% of the time those careers DON'T come with a lack of privacy. Most people who act or sing professionally are still able to fly under the radar when moving through normal society. She was working and singing for at least 10 years before now, and she suddenly blew up this year within a matter of months. it's like winning the jackpot at the lottery. Most actors/singers in the industry are average people that lead normal lives.

Chalking up public boundary violations as the price of being in business just absolve the assholes. It's wrong, and the only way it will get changed is if more people call it out.

tbf i heard her say recently that she wishes she would've gone the daft punk route and wore some kind of mask so that it'd be easier for her to stay anonymous

In addition to what has already been said about the majority of working musicians/actors never reaching this level of fame, many musicians and actors choose these careers because they genuinely love the artistry, craft, creativity, and expression that goes into making art and performing it. Many of them spend years in small venues because they love what they do and it makes them happy, not because they think sticking with it will eventually result in becoming as famous as Tom Cruise.

She left small venues for the largest festivals in the USA before she blew up. Booking multiple huge festival on some level means the artist wants more exposure and to grow their fanbase.

Its like an actor booking a marvel movie but still hoping remain anonymous, even if its a small role and they were an unknown actor.
