BigHit tends to be very litigious so I expect once the investigation is complete and the official report is released, I will be getting WeVerse notifications informing me about BigHit suing their asses. Which like... it's what they deserve ( ... )

Only news report claimed he told the officers he had one drink, but that isn't confirmed and isn't part of his statement. This post is only to address the official statements that were called into question.

Yeah his statement was basically like "drank at dinner then went to studio to have drinks with friends" so idk why he'd say something different to the police?? So I'm skeptical of that reporting. But I guess we'll know for sure when the investigation is complete.

People don't walk at 5mph, usually walking stride is 3mph! Electric scooters shouldn't be in a sidewalk.

lol i was using an estimate to make a point. we obvs don't know the exact speed he was going. Maybe he was going less than 5mph. Maybe more. my overall point was that he clearly wasn't zipping around on the side walk. He was about the same pace as the people walking around him. Should he have been on the sidewalk? No. But he wasn't exactly running pedestrians down with how he was riding the scooter. Was he breaking the law doing so? idk Korea's laws about that but it wasn't part of the initial charges so like maybe it'll be added later if it is?

He still operated a vehicle drunk. We shouldn't use the excuse he wasn't zipping around and driving straight, because it's the same excuse of people use when they drive drunk. It takes just takes one mistake being impaired to have consequences as their reaction time is not great.

I agree that he broke the law. He was definitely in the wrong and I feel like the proposed punishment fits the crime. I'm not saying he did nothing wrong. Just that like, the potential for harming others in this specific situation was low so it feels a little disingenuous to act like riding an electric scooter is functionally the exact same as getting behind the wheel of a car.

People in cars generally (though obviously not only) hit other people also in cars, meaning that there is a potential (though, again, obviously not perfect) barrier of protection between them and an impact. Suga, meanwhile, was driving an electric vehicle on a sidewalk with pedestrians. So, you're right, it isn't functionally the exact same, because unlike Suga, who had some protection in the form of a helmet he couldn't be bothered to wear properly and total control over the vehicle in question, pedestrians had zero protection against him running them over.

Please stop minimizing the potential consequences of DUIs. He might be your favourite but he is not some child who needs your protection. According to Google, he is 31 years old. Well past the age to know better. He could have killed someone or gotten himself killed. There's a reason you aren't even supposed to ride a bike while drunk. Anything faster than walking on your own two feet and under your own power is dangerous.

I am so confused by your argument. Are you suggesting that getting behind a wheel of a car (that can go 100mph and weighs 2 tons) drunk is less dangerous to people around him than getting on an electric scooter whose top speed is 25mph and weighs less than 50 lbs?

Neither is good or legal but the potential consequences are obviously different.

I'm saying you are once again minimizing his actions and pretending that one, there's some substantial, measurable gap between his conduct and the conduct of someone getting behind the wheel of a car while drunk, and two, that people are being unfair for viewing him in a negative light even with the new video. What is really disingenuous in this situation is you being all, well, he did something bad but I hope he's learned his lesson! and constantly moving the goal posts (because it's not the worst DUI, he went slow! he didn't hit anyone! he didn't hit anything! he didn't hurt himself!) rather than letting others have their understandable reactions to a literal DUI incident. Like I said before, he could have killed someone, including himself. Every pedestrian sharing the sidewalk with him would have had zero protection or way to prevent the impact. What part of that is not serious enough to you?

I don't necessarily think the speed he's going matters, it's about the speed that the vehicle is capable of and what it has the power to do. Like if you drive a car drunk but below the speed limit, you are still driving drunk. Sure you didn't do damage or hurt anyone but in the eyes of the law, it is the same level of crime.

I'm glad he didn't get hurt or hurt anyone else and seems largely in control until the fall on the turn, but I don't think defending him based on his speed alone is doing him any favors.

I recently found out that speed walkers are actually allowed to have both feet off the ground as long as it’s not super obvious 😂 Hal would be outraged
