Chappell Roan's star just keeps on rising and rising. The "Good Luck, Babe!" songstress garnered an unprecedented-sized crowd at the Lollapalooza music festival over the weekend, according to organizers. “Chappell’s performance was the biggest daytime set we’ve ever seen. It was a magical moment added to Lolla’s DNA,” a spokesperson for ( Read more... )

When a bunch of people inevitably get sick from this, maybe even die, this picture will go down as one of the worst things we humans have ever done to each other. For the benefit of a white woman who did a silly dance https://t.co/NLqwuildUp

Hot take but I think we need to realize that he vaccine worked and we can't stop healthy people from living their lives forever. Covid cases and deaths have been trending down since early 2022 and have mostly plateaued. As a healthcare worker, I was right in the thick of the covid devastation in 2020/2021, we were having multiple deaths daily, illness like I'd never seen before. It's just not like that anymore despite everything being back open and masking rates down. If I see a covid patient they're usually asymptomatic.

Yeah, this is outright filled with misinformation. idk about deaths but in the winter the US was still averaging about 1000 covid deaths per week. And right now cases are hovering around 900,000 per day. In what world is that trending down?

You do realize that your risk of long covid is cumulative with each infection? If we had at least kept mask mandates and worked on installing air filters in all public buildings maybe things would be different but at this point society is sticking its head in the sand with regards to what is actually happening with covid. Also those so called "healthy" people won't stay healthy after multiple infections.

Deaths are way down from where they were in 2020/2021. I think the 1000 deaths number you are referring to is all deaths involving pneumonia, flu, OR covid.

1000 deaths per week was referring to covid only. It finally fell below 1000 deaths per week starting around March but given how much covid has been going around this summer, I won't be surprised if we see it go back up. Either way, saying that "healthy" people have to be able to get on with their lives is extremely ableist and basically says that certain lives are expendable.

Ok, even in the graph at your source we can see that deaths are exponentially down from where they were in 2020/2021. How many concerts and large events have we had in the last year or so and how many have been confirmed to be super spreader events?

This user also has posted about attending concerts. I’m not sure how they are excluded from treating other lives as expendable when they also engage in the same activities, whether masked or not.

You understand that if everyone continued to mask, being in public would be less risky for immunocompromised people, right?

It’s incredible that you are trying to make me out as hypocritical for attending large events masked when you aren’t masking at all. I wish the covid vaccines were as effective as the flu vaccine but sadly they’re not. Until then I’ll continue masking.

No one is saying you can’t mask. Immunocompromised people were not going to Lollapalooza prior to Covid because viral infections were always a huge risk for them.

I have no idea about concerts but it’s weird to me that people only seem to consider death a bad outcome when the reality is that we’re gonna a ton of people end up disabled due to long covid. This article has a ton of resources that you can look at, as a healthcare worker I assume you’re used to reading journal articles. https://www.ineteconomics.org/perspectives/blog/debilitating-a-generation-expert-warns-that-long-covid-may-eventually-affect-most-americans

Anyway, I’m not willing to play Russian roulette with my health. I’m going to continue masking until there’s a significant decrease in cases.

No one said you should stop masking, or staying inside, or socially distancing if that's what you want to do. But we also can't say that people going to a concert is one of the worst things that humans have ever done to each other.
