Wow. That ad had to pass through many hands before it aired, and not one person said that it was garbage.

Its either that or there were people that were like 'this is inappropriate/offensive' but they were ignored.

it's this. you 1000% have people who worked on this and knew it was fucked up, but the boss(es) decided this one and at the end of the day, they just work there

At my old advertising company, apparently something went out with an offensive term in it (I’m not sure what it was, I didn’t work on it - was a different part of the network - but I think it was a term for people from the Southern US).

Anyway. Their solution was to make sure a form checking for inclusivity (lbr, it was more of a “is this going to get us sued?” Tick box exercise) was circulated on every project beforehand. And everybody on the call discussing it, with the exception of one guy, was white.

So when I pointed out that it wasn’t up to us (as a majority white, highly-educated, good socioeconomic status group) to be making those calls and doing that exercise in isolation, and we needed to be inviting minority groups to the table to get their input from the outset of projects…. I wasn’t invited to any other calls about it after that.
