I've considered taking Wegovy (same drug, but for weight loss), but the digestive side effects have really scared me off. Aside from the constipation that she's mentioning, I've read about people taking it who just feel low-level nauseated all of the time, and others who are regularly throwing up, and while I would love to lose some weight, that does not seem like a great tradeoff! Plus the costs are high, and insurance companies keep taking it off their formularies. Idk.

When i took saxenda, i was also on zofran because i already get nauseous randomly as it is. With saxenda, i was basically nauseous 24/7 + diarrhea. I had to stop taking it because it stopped working but the side effects sure didn't.
(Saxenda is also a daily injection and there is a reason it's quickly becoming unpopular. It's time has come and gone very fast.)

I’ve been on Wegovy for a while as I just wasn’t losing weight like I used to be able to (now thinking it’s probably related to perimenopause… yay hormones). I also did 23&me and it showed I was at a higher risk of things including diabetes, cholesterol issues, coronary artery disease… it felt like it was time to try something new after years of dieting, exercise and failure ( ... )

I've heard people anecdotally say it helped with their shopping compulsions, too, which seems really interesting to explore from a medical perspective.

Anecdotally, I'm having the same experience - compulsive behavior drastically reduced. I really hope this is studied and can be used for addiction, without producing weight loss in people who wouldn't need that part.

I'm happy for you! And, yes, I hope people are exploring this.

i am really fascinated by reports of peoples addictions no longer having a hold on them [gambling, alcohol, other drugs, shopping etc]. i am super curious what the reason for that would be.

GLP-1 drugs reduce the release of dopamine in the striatum, so drinking, bingeing, gambling shopping etc. don't hit as hard anymore.

Ha, I knew it had to be dopamine related! Which would also hint at some hidden ADHD with self medication via alcohol etc.

It’s so interesting. I also had a casual vaping habit but I’ve stopped that now too. I just don’t want it. I still get the occasional craving but food noise and feeling like I need a few drinks at the end of a long day are basically gone.

i love this for you! would you say that healthful or positive ways of spending time/getting dopamine have been affected at all?

I’ve been on Mounjaro/Zepbound for about 10 months, and the only side effect I had was tiredness, and only on a higher dose. I dropped back down to a lower dose and was fine. It’s been really effective for me.
