I will. not. eat broccoli or mushrooms. broccoli, aside from smelling like a fart, harbors tiny bugs in the florets that are near impossible to fully remove. mushrooms are fungus and smell like athlete's foot.

also, vinegar and yogurt are too pungent for me. sets off the aul gag reflex.

NO!!! I love broccoli! Now I’m gonna have to pretend I never read this or I’ll have a complex. 😂

that's why it's not allowed in some kosher diets

I had no idea about any of this. I liked it better when I was dumb.

Fun fact: the FDA allows a small amount of "defects" like of human hair/bugs/pus/poop/etc in all foods D:

do you have proof of the little bugs in broccoli?

Reply

kawaiiairbender July 28 2024, 18:09:10 UTC
No proof but anecdotally when i grew them it was incredibly hard to remove all the bugs. It really turned me off from eating it. The florets were full of different bugs 🤢 we only grew them 1 year bc of that

I eat a ton of cooked broccoli now so I've made peace with knowing I'm eating bugs.

i literally bought a batch of fresh broccoli from aldi maybe two months ago that had not only live flies (two literally flew out when i unwrapped the plastic wrap), but also! larvae.

which i found after i washed and steamed some florets meant for my ramen.

i'm not really squeamish, and i understand that fresh foods will sometimes still have dirt and bugs on them. but i won't lie, it's been a frozen broccoli summer for me since then.

that was my first time with that issue, tbf. anw, i will be drowning my fresh broccoli in vinegar once i get over the willies.

(and is it just mean or has it been a poor harvest for broccoli this summer? at least where i am, you can't find a nice bunch anywhere and it's been like this for weeks)
