Yup... my red state legislature is constantly passing laws that are immediately challenged in the courts, and many are (thankfully) being overturned. You'd think that they'd try proposing laws that have a chance of standing up in court, but they just want to throw fits and whine about "activist judges" instead.

Nah, they 100% know the laws they pass are going to get struck down but they do it anyways to make their voter base happy. My job is helping to create legislation and I've worked on so many projects where we have very clear legal advise from government lawyers stating that the proposed laws will never stand up to a court review. We pass that advice on to the politicians and 9 times out of 10 (with this current right-wing government) they go ahead with it anyways because if it passes they get to do big press announcements and bring it up as an example of "getting stuff done" when their campaigning in the next election.

I will say though, the amount of money required to defend these types of court cases is insane. I always laugh at people who vote in right wing parties because they think they're more "fiscally responsible" than centrist or left wing ones. BITCH PLEASE, no one wastes more tax payer money than populist conservatives with dumb ideas and no sense of shame.

They would agree with you but the whole point of these stunts is to challenge the law. To do so, they have to have standing which means operating as a religious organization including not paying taxes.

what does a chaplain of any religion do in a public school? like do they work with the school counselors? have their own separate offices? scuttle along the hallways looking for lost souls?
