1) Charli has been hustling a very long time, and while she always made great work, she had a lot of beef with her label regarding her music not being commercial enough for the label. A lot of her previous work sort of was a clash between her weirder sensibilities and trying to blend those into commercial / pop enough to the label’s content. Her more “experimental” stuff was relegated to EPs and mixtapes (Vroom, Vroom, Pop2) whereas her full LPs with label backing leaned more pop. I think Brat was her first album released under her current / new label, and she was allowed mostly free rein and got to fully embrace her own vision and the public has responded well.
2) Chappel is a breath of fresh air. Her current album was released last year but only now are the album and songs rising to new peaks. I think a lot of positive word of mouth has also helped catapult her, and it’s sort of refreshing that word of mouth can still do so much for a uniquely talented artist in 2024. We are so used now to an album being declared dead 2 weeks after release unless it performs well right out of the gate. I’m really looking forward to her next stuff.
3) Sabrina has also been hustling a while but I think Espresso really just hit at the right time. And PPP was a good follow up. Point blank - the songs are good and catching on.
Tl;dr version - these 3 are putting out good stuff that is resonating with the public more than some of the projects being pushed by other, long time a-list artists.
