I'm a Lana fan myself but I don't really see the cool girl thing. Makes me think more of the coquette trend that's popular on tumblr lol.

I feel like the fanbase gives more chasing certain aesthetics that none of us actually live or look by irl. It's just a lot of aesthetics lol.

Yeah, I have to say Charli is a critics’ darling. For years she was getting critics’ reviews that heralded her as the future of pop so when she didn’t get as good reviews for Crash she kind of melted down and started publicly complaining about critics which is what I think you saw and are referring to.

I think Charli has a chip on her shoulder that the glowing reviews she gets have not translated to the mainstream popularity she wants. At least she’s finally being honest about it because for years she pretended she didn’t care… but it was obvious she does care and she’s jealous of more popular artists.

I was just curious so I checked Spotify and despite Charli having just released an album which is when her numbers would be the highest she has about 15 million monthly listeners while Lana hasn’t released an album for over a year and has 55 million monthly listeners. 😬

Nah it's even before Crash but when she released her third album Charli in 2019 and the singles weren't charting well

then a few years later is when she complained about critics lol. I remember another user I think williammiller(?) saying that "charli is too much of a Leo for me to believe that" when she said she doesn't care looool. I think still think about that comment haha

I didn't realize Charli released an album in 2019 called Charli and I've listened to most of her other stuff... damn! i guess it was kinda a flop after all because i've never heard people talking about it

Charli is simply not satisfied cause she wants the validation, which granted I think it'll just make her feel empty if she gets to those heights because to me she's not built for the mainstream and everything that comes with it.

Camila at this point is clearly a singles artist. But I can see her gripe with Camilla cause she's clearly copping her style, so it probably does suck seeing someone else getting moderate popularity to more attention at something that you're more known for.

But I agree with you cause Charli is an interesting position cause like you said has the fanbase, the album sales and she's financially good cause she writes for other artists who songs do well so she's getting those residuals. But I get it....you always want a taste of that top spot.

I wish her well but lol she's gotta make more accessible pop music to achieve that. But she already did that with SUCKER and she only came off hating that album and didn't wanna promote it lol.

Charli the album is mostly noise but it does have “Gone” and “Cross You Out” which are two of her best songs imo

Charli is typically more obvious and bitter about the artists she's threatened by, like Rina Sawayama or Camila Cabello. I don't think Lana is in the same wavelength Charli is for her to feel envious by her.

I can get the Camila's envy because she's literally copping her style lol.

The Lana wave-length just made me of her admitting that she was envious of Lorde's success which similar to Lana doesn't make sense cause neither Lana nor Lorde's music sound anything like Charli.

But she clearly envies their success. I bring in Lana cause similar to Charli, they're both niche artists that found success despite not being mainstream artists but Lana has managed to really excel in that area and get some attention from the mainstream/awards groups despite not occupying that space whereas Charli hasn't had that. Which funny cause Charli as a songwriter has more chart toppers than Lana cause she's written for other artists whose singles went to the top of the charts.
