The English speaking press has been reporting this poorly acting like what he paid was to settle, but the amount he's had to pay is court costs for taking the case to trial.

It wasn't dropped, they settled it. They both went into this hearing to resolve this case peacefully for the sake of their daughter. They settled it and he has to pay her money.

The money mentioned is court fees and part paid to a charity run by the Berlin court.

I was of the understanding the settlement was about their custody dispute but and not to do with the current case and that settlement led to Brenda not wanting to continue, but I may be wrong. BILD did say it but I have since since a comment from the Berlin court saying Patea did not wish to continue with the case, I'm assuming that is at least correct.
I assume you understand the German court system better than me though. I'm reading translate articles.
I can remove BILD as a source if you think it's unreliable.
