This is honestly the funniest scandal in Kpop history. IJBOL.
I can't believe BSH and his goons are this incompetent. They literally had 100+ journalists on their payroll, Dispatch on their side, the largest law firm in SK defending them, a 80% stake in Ador, millions of unhinged company stans shielding them on social media, an intensive audit done to Ador and yet they still lost pathetically.
Now their reputation with the public and most importantly within the entertainment industry is donezo. No top tier creatives will ever sign with them after the bait and switch they just pulled with MHJ. Their extensive payola got exposed. The execs' dirty habits are out in the open.
Of course Hybe isn't over but it'll be difficult for them to attract actual talent with their current reputation and track record. All they're going to be left with are hacks and snakes. Not to mention they've been unable to launch an organically successful group (with unknown members) other than BTS.
The minute BTS leaves the company or loses popularity is the minute Hybe will fall to a B/C-tier status.
I agree with almost all of your comment, but HYBE hasn't totally lost yet from my understanding. They lost in the sense that Min Heejin won the emergency injunction, but they are still pressing criminal charges against her and the other execs and the court in their ruling, and if they end up winning those then this ruling expires and they are free to fire her.
Even if they win the other trials, they'll still have to pay her 14M + 75-150M in put options because nothing she did violated the contract she signed.
Also the "criminal charges" that Hybe filed against MHJ and the other execs are embezzlement, usurpation of management rights, leaking of confidential information and defamation. So far, legal experts came out and said Hybe hadn't produced any concrete evidence on the first 3 charges so I don't think they'll win in court tbh.
As for defamation, I believe they'll 100% win this as in SK law, even if what you say is the truth, you can be charged if you harm another by spreading the truth. I can see her getting a fine over her allegations regarding Illit. But is it really a win for Hybe? Literally everyone said Illit was a NewJeans copy when they debuted. On top of that, Hybe literally hired the team behind NJ's debut for Illit's debut lol.
it's been interesting, to say the least, to see what gets translated for western audiences. the media narratives have been very different depending on where you get your news from. either I missed an article covering the specific language of the contract (very likely; these update posts have not been deep dives) or it wasn't reported on until now. if it were previously disclosed, but never translated, that's an insane choice to make and feels way more relevant than who does/doesn't go to a shaman? (also, what happened to MHJ potentially leaking info about trainees? was that also just BSH and his goons making up shit?)
incredible that they had all those people on their payroll and still dropped the ball this hard. I know BTS has loyalty to BSH but they honestly don't need him anymore and haven't for a while. if they bail, he's cooked.
it's honestly hard to feel bad for anyone but the groups in all of this, these grown ass adults and executives did it to themselves. I still wish both MHJ and BSH would get fired, though, albeit for different reasons. very glad at least that NewJeans are no longer caught in the crossfire.
From what I understand, her contract prohibits her from harming Ador and its interests - but not Hybe's. So even if she did harm (or plan to harm) Hybe, they cannot fire her from her position as Ador CEO because her actions didn't impact negatively Ador.
The real issue here is that Hybe came up with the multilabel system to spread the risk of failure across different companies and promote healthy competition within the company to churn out more and more groups and drive up the total revenue. Which, on paper, is great. But this MHJ/Hybe conflict exposed that the labels are not actually independent and literally cannibalize each other with the blessings of Bang Si Hyuk and Park Ji Won.
All in all, none of this would've happened if BSH/Hybe let Ador be and didn't try to control and steal from them. Most knetz (and me included) are puzzled as to why Hybe even came up with the multi-label system if they were going to manage it like an unique label a la SM or JYPE. The only explanation that makes sense is that they pretended to be a multi-label company in an attempt to have the "conglomerate" title (since that's the legal definition of one).
when this whole thing started i said the single most baffling thing is why HYBE debuted Illit as they did to begin with... because they exposed that the multi-label system for them is more just buying out competition but also that they still view the sub-labels as competition. so....WHAT
